Christmas at The Paramount
Celebrate the season with The Oratorio Society of Virginia at one of Charlottesville’s most cherished holiday traditions. The full 110+ voice Oratorio Society chorus is joined by chamber orchestra under the direction of Music Director Michael Slon for a radiant afternoon and evening of music, including joyful audience carol sing-along.
At the heart of this year’s program is Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat, an intimate yet intensely dramatic Baroque masterpiece. From its solemn, majestic opening to its fiery choral passages and expressive solo movements, Vivaldi brings Mary’s wonder, devotion, and exultation vividly to life. Rich in theatrical text-painting, rhythmic energy, and soaring vocal color, the work offers a powerful showcase for chorus, soloists, and orchestra.
