  • Christmas at The Paramount

    December 20th at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. | The Paramount Theater in Charlottesville

    The 100+-voice Oratorio Society chorus under the baton of Music Director, Michael Slon, and joined by string orchestra, organ, and guest soloists present “Christmas at The Paramount.”

    We’re also excited to welcome the Trailblazer Elementary School Chorus led by Michael Salvatierra for the 2:30 p.m. performance, and Voces Laetae youth choir directed by Will Cooke will join us onstage for the 7:30 p.m. concert.

    Featuring the luminous warmth of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, as well as other holiday favorites and audience sing-along carols, you’ll want to bring the whole family for this annual Charlottesville tradition!

    We are delighted to offer a livestream option for those unable to attend our holiday concert in person. This option is available for the 7:30 p.m. performance only. Whatever the reason, enjoy Christmas at The Paramount live or watch the recording later. Either way, don’t miss out on this joyful, family-friendly event!

    It’s recommended that you purchase livestream access ahead of time, if possible. Registrations will still be accepted after the start of the 7:30 p.m. performance, and viewing the livestream recording will remain active until January 1, 2026.ion goes here

  • Together in Song: Songs of Democracy - benefitting Emergency Food Network

    March 14th, 2026 | Choral Workshop at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Concert at 4:00 p.m. | First Presbyterian Church, 500 Park St, Charlottesville

    The Oratorio Society’s 100-voice chorus, along with community singers from the morning workshop, and guest youth choir, Voces Laetae, will present a special program honoring our nation’s 250-year history in collaboration with Virginia 250 — the state commission of America250, a nationwide bipartisan initiative to celebrate the values of our democracy.

    Featuring American choral treasures from Irving Berlin, Randall Thompson, Rosephanye Powell, and Howard Hanson’s stirring Song of Democracy, this program will also raise funds and awareness for our community partner Emergency Food Network (previous partners have been the local chapters of Literacy Volunteers, Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Clubs, Loaves and Fishes, and Hospice of the Piedmont).

    Adult Workshop Registration: $40 / $25 student + cost of music score(s) (Registration includes a ticket to the afternoon concert; Workshop participants will join The Oratorio Society chorus for the second half of the concert program)

Presented with full orchestra, outstanding professional guest soloists, and the power of 100+ voices in harmony, Mendelssohn’s masterful oratorio* brings the Old Testament story of the prophet, Elijah, to life through exquisite and timeless melodies.

“This small piece deserves to be world famous,” said Robert Schumann of his contemporary’s brief but undeniably beautiful setting of Martin Luther’s prayer for peace. Originally slated for performance on our March 2020 Together in Song, members of The Oratorio Society recorded this performance at home. We hope to sing it for you live, very soon!
