Section Leader Responsibilities
The four Section Leaders for the Oratorio Society serve a key role in maintaining smooth communications between the singers in their sections and the Director, the Program Coordinator and the Board. They are elected by the members of their sections at the beginning of the concert year (in the fall). They must be reliable and easy to reach for communication purposes.
The responsibilities of the Section Leaders include:
- Be in regular contact with the Director and the Board, as appropriate, for the purposes indicated below.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of names, addresses, phone numbers and other information about members of their section, provide this information to the Oratorio Secretary, and report any changes to the Secretary and Director.
- Prior to the production of any concert program, assist the secretary and/or program editor by reviewing their section lists to confirm their accuracy.
- Keep the attendance record for their section and be aware of absences. Contact singers who miss rehearsals if their absence is unexplained. Singers, in turn, are responsible for notifying their Section Leader if they MUST miss any rehearsals.
- Keep track of needs for additional copies of music, etc.
- Answer questions raised by the singers in their section, if possible; or refer them to the appropriate people capable of providing an answer. In this connection, the Section Leaders need to know about the Board's activities, issues before TOSCA, etc.
- Notify and remind the members of their section whenever there are extra rehearsals, sectional rehearsals, or changes in the TOSCA schedule; or when their section is responsible for any activity, such as refreshments at rehearsals. On these occasions it may be the Section Leader's responsibility to serve as organizer/social director!
- Arrange communication with singers who do not have email or web access and notify such persons whenever cancellations occur or notices are sent out to the group via email
Section Leaders may be called upon by the Director or the Board from time to time, when their assistance is needed and appropriate.
It is assumed that the Section Leader will set an example of dependability and responsibility for the rest of the section, in terms of promptness and consistent attendance at rehearsals, learning music, etc.
