L. Thomas Vining, Conductor

Lance is a graduate of Westminster Choir College of Princeton, New Jersey; Peabody Conservatory of Music, Baltimore, Maryland; and the Royal School of Church Music in Croyden, England. He had an early debut as a tenor soloist in the Beethoven Ninth Symphony with Leopold Stokowski at Carnegie Hall. He has performed as a lyric spinto tenor with many orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra. He frequently appeared at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the New York City Opera at Lincoln Center.

Because of his desire to conduct, Lance moved from beside to behind the baton after studying with Leonard Bernstein, Leopold Stokowski, Robert Shaw, Aaron Copland, Sir Malcolm Sergeant, and others. He has conducted the Denver Symphony, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, the Knoxville Symphony, and the Memphis Symphony. He received a Presidential Citation for service with the U.S. Army Field Band and Chorus.

Lance was founder and director of the Bay Area Christian Choir. He has served as Minister of Music in California, Tennessee, and is now at the Vienna Presbyterian Church as the Director of Music and Worship in Vienna, Virginia.

In his spare time, Lance serves as adjudicator of vocal competitions and composes music.
