Information For Singers

The Oratorio Society invites all interested singers to join us in performing John Rutter’s Requiem. The day will consist of a master class with Oratorio Society Music Director Michael Slon and the Oratorio Society chorus (mandatory for singers who wish to perform in the concert) at First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, a brief warm-up at 3:00 pm, and a performance in the church sanctuary at 4:00 pm.

We welcome choirs as well as individual singers from our community. We ask participating singers to prepare the work in advance. High school students who are recommended by their choral teachers (and confirmed by them to have learned the music) are welcome to join.

Rutter’s Requiem is published by Oxford University Press. Community singers can bring their own scores if they have them, purchase them from the Oratorio Society or online, or borrow a score from the Oratorio Society. If you wish to purchase or borrow a score, simply indicate the number of scores desired on the Registration Form. Purchased and borrowed scores can be picked up prior to Oratorio Society rehearsals, Monday evenings between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m., at the Municipal Arts Center, 1119 5th St SW, Charlottesville. Please bring a printed copy of your registration receipt when you pick up your score. Borrowed scores must be returned immediately after the concert.

Singers may also find Cyberbass (http://www.cyberbass.com), which provides interactive midi files by voice part, to be useful in learning their parts — see links at the bottom of this page.
